A Journey Through Harmony, Nature and Imagination

Beatrice Sartori, Artist

Beatrice Sartori is an artist who brings to life worlds shaped by harmony, dreams and the quiet beauty of nature, using her mastery of paper and colour. Her creations reach beyond visual pleasure. They act as a bridge between reality and imagination, inviting reflection and reminding us of essential values such as respect, peace and our connection with the natural world. As an artist who balances precision and intuition, Beatrice approaches each piece with meticulous care while allowing her creativity to move freely, inspired by the details of everyday life. In this interview, she shares her creative process, her ecological awareness and the way writing for young readers nourishes her collage work. Through her words, we are offered a glimpse into her world, where dreams and reality move together in harmony and create moments of calm and inspiration.

Your artistic process seems to be a blend of precision and intuition. How do you approach the creative process? Do you need certain moments of inspiration, or does your work often arise spontaneously from everyday observations?

My inspiration is spontaneous and intuitive and often begins with small scraps of paper left from my cutting work. These fragments, with their unexpected shapes, spark new ideas. A particular piece catches my eye and forms an image in my mind, which I sketch quickly before it slips away. That sketch becomes the starting point for a new composition. This approach allows me to stay attentive yet free, turning small moments from daily life into new visual stories.

My process begins with a pencil drawing that helps me set the structure of the piece and imagine its final form. I then move on to choosing colours with great care. Once the shades are selected, I redraw and cut every detail from the chosen papers. The assembly follows. I adjust, arrange and glue each element with precision. Some areas contain up to eight overlapping layers, creating depth, relief and a tactile quality that adds dimension to the image.

Your art conveys a profound respect for nature and human relationships. What inspired you to explore themes of harmony and respect through collage? In your view, how can art deepen our understanding of these values?

Collage fascinates me because it brings together many cut out elements and allows them to form a new and coherent subject. Watching these fragments unite in harmony is deeply satisfying and almost magical. Over time, this interaction with paper has grown into a genuine passion.

Through my collages, I try to express values that are essential to me: respect, peaceful relationships and an awareness of the need to protect the environment. By creating images shaped by softness and simplicity, I hope to build a quiet link between art and nature and to remind viewers of the importance of caring for the world around us.

Art is a powerful way to share ideas and can reach a wide and diverse audience. The emotions it evokes create a universal language that opens a space for personal reflection.

I believe art can awaken awareness by placing viewers in front of images or ideas that prompt deeper thought. In this sense, it becomes a catalyst for change, encouraging each person to reconnect with an inner truth or to look at the world from a renewed perspective.

The vibrant colors and abstract forms in your work make it both distinctive and unique. How do you choose the colors and shapes that dominate your compositions? Is there symbolism in your work that holds personal meaning for you as an artist?

I pay close attention to colour, because it sets the harmony and atmosphere of each piece. My approach is intuitive and personal and relies on observation and experimentation. I begin by defining a base palette guided by the emotion I want to express. I then place colour samples side by side to see how they interact. This helps me understand whether the shades complement or contrast with one another and allows me to refine the palette until I reach the balance I am looking for.

In the early years, my compositions were extremely detailed and sometimes included more than three hundred glued elements. Over time, I felt the need to simplify my work so that each shape and colour could stand out more clearly. This shift led me toward more graphic forms and toward using papers of different weights to create contrasts in density.

Certain motifs appear often in my pieces, such as flowers and stars. For me, they express joy, delicacy and a sense of well-being. I also love representing birds, which symbolise freedom. Colour itself carries meaning, as every shade holds the power to evoke emotion and bring the image to life.

Your work reflects a strong ecological awareness, a value that is more crucial than ever today. How did you develop this sense of responsibility toward nature in your creative practice? Are there artists or movements that inspired you to use your art as a platform for ecological messaging?

My concern for the environment appears naturally in my work. I try to encourage a deeper awareness of our bond with nature. This theme is always present in my thoughts and it directly shapes my creative process. When an unexpected shape emerges, it becomes part of my reflections on the beauty and fragility of the natural world. These spontaneous impressions often turn into works that invite quiet contemplation or highlight the need to preserve what surrounds us.

My ecological commitment comes more from a personal sense of responsibility toward protecting the planet than from the influence of specific artists or movements. Most of the papers I use are one hundred percent recycled, which reflects my concern for preserving natural resources.

Alongside your collages, you are also dedicated to writing books for young readers. How do your experiences in writing intersect with your visual art? Is there a connection between the characters you create in your books and the themes present in your visual work?

The characters I create in my children’s books are not directly linked to the themes in my collages. However, writing for young readers helps me keep a sense of wonder. When I imagine a story, I place myself in the position of the child who will read it, hoping to offer them adventure, dreams and a touch of fantasy.

That desire to transport others into a poetic world is also present in my visual creations. My writing nourishes my collage work and my collages nourish my writing, since both aim to tell stories and create spaces that inspire imagination and escape.

By bringing words and images together, I invite readers and viewers to begin a journey that is both visual and narrative. The two practices complement each other and grow together in a shared search for poetry and gentleness.

Your pieces, such as L’arbre aux rêves and Vivre en harmonie, often evoke a world of dreams and fantasy. As an artist, what does this fusion of reality and dreams mean to you? Do dreams and imagination provide you with additional inspiration for creating unique artistic visions?

I have always been guided by a vivid imagination and a strong sense of wonder. The imaginary world is an endless source of inspiration. It allows me to see inventive shapes in small scraps of paper and to drift into daydreams that lead to gentle and peaceful inner landscapes. These inner worlds, shaped by quiet moments, thoughts and a desire for freedom, guide much of my creative work.

By bringing dream and reality together, collage becomes a way for me to translate my imagination and reflections into images.

Through your work, you convey a sense of tranquility and simple beauty. What do you hope viewers feel when they look at your pieces? What is your greatest hope as an artist regarding the impact of your creations?

Through my work, I am deeply committed to offering dreams, escape and serenity. By bringing together precision, emotion and imagination, my wish is to create a space in which viewers can settle in, find calm and experience a sense of well-being. I also hope to open a quiet dialogue about kindness and our relationship with the world, so that each person can discover, beyond simple beauty, a gentle inspiration for a more peaceful connection with themselves and with their surroundings.
