Poetry that Flows into Image and Story

Beatrice Sartori is an artist whose work knows no boundaries between language, paper, and color. Her stories and collages create a world where gentleness becomes a driving force, and imagination finds the space to breathe. In this conversation with Artistic Hub Magazine, she speaks about her new book The Legend of Edgar, the exhibitions that have shaped her year, and the experience of representing Switzerland on the international stage. Her words reveal that art is not only a form but also a way of seeing the world with greater kindness, hope, and quiet strength.

Your work is already recognized around the world, yet you continue to open new chapters through books and exhibitions. How would you describe yourself as an artist today, in this moment, and the creative world you are shaping?

Today, I describe myself as a visual artist and author shaping a poetic universe nourished by serenity and dreams. What matters most to me is sharing gentleness, creating bonds, and nurturing connections. In a world that is constantly evolving, I aspire to offer a space for imagination and wonder.

My greatest satisfaction comes when someone tells me that my creations bring them positive vibrations. These words fill me with joy and confirm that I have achieved my intention.

This dialogue inspires my creativity, fueling my desire to move forward and explore new horizons. Remaining faithful to my artistic vision allows me to weave authentic and lasting relationships with those who step into my universe. I associate my artistic practice today with this sense of positive accomplishment.

Your new book The Legend of Edgar is being released now. What is at the heart of this story, and what message do you wish to convey through it? How did it come to life, and what was most important to you while writing it?

La Légende d’Edgar tells the poetic and moving story of a scarecrow in love with life. It is the tale of a character rejected by others, yet filled with wonder at the beauty of the world. Beneath his worn and withered straw beats a tender and sincere heart, guided by a profound desire to discover and to share.

Through Edgar, I wanted to convey a message of kindness, hope, and freedom, an invitation to look beyond appearances and to listen to the voice of our dreams.

This story was born as I observed a small scarecrow planted in a flowerpot. I watched it standing there, alone and motionless, rooted in the earth with no possibility of leaving, while its wide-open arms gave me the impression that it longed to take flight.

During the writing process, what mattered most to me was preserving a dreamlike and sensitive dimension, shaping the musicality of the text so that each word and rhythm could carry Edgar’s emotion and poetry.

This book brings together your love for writing and visual art. In what way did the poetics of your collages flow into Edgar, and did writing, in turn, offer you a new perspective on shaping paper?

It was writing that first opened the doors to cut-paper art for me. In seeking to illustrate my stories, I discovered the expressive richness of collage and developed a visual universe composed of shapes, colors, and harmony. This process profoundly transformed my relationship with imagery and continues to nourish my imagination.

For The Legend of Edgar, the illustrations were created by my husband, painter Michel Jegerlehner. When I read the story to him, he was immediately moved by the poetry of the scarecrow rooted in a field of sunflowers. The images came to him effortlessly, and through his watercolors he conveyed the character’s atmosphere, his connection to nature, and his dream of freedom.

I love pursuing this dual artistic practice between visual arts and writing, two complementary languages in constant dialogue. In my collages, I always write a short story to accompany the image in order to deepen its message and prolong the emotion. For me, uniting words and images means offering the viewer a tender, sensitive universe filled with resonance.

This year, you represented Switzerland as Artist Ambassador at "Art Connects Women 2025" under the patronage of UNESCO. What did that experience mean to you, and did it open new questions or themes in your artistic practice?

I had the immense honor of representing Switzerland at the 8th edition of Art Connects Women in Dubai, a prestigious event that brought together 112 artists from 112 countries. It was a profoundly inspiring experience, celebrating inclusion, equality, and the richness of female artistic diversity. Over five intense days, I had the privilege of meeting remarkable artists and sharing an unforgettable human adventure with them.

Taking part in this intercultural dialogue enriched me deeply. It strengthened my desire to create works that open spaces for reflection, that connect people, and that envision a future built on respect and inclusivity.

From this inspiration, my series Unies dans l’Harmonie was born, which highlights women brought together by a shared momentum of hope, guided by peace, freedom, inner light, and a deep connection between human beings and nature.

In the first half of 2025, you held two important exhibitions: "Fragments of Harmony" in March and "Where Paper Blossoms" in June. What did these chapters bring to your journey, and how did they shape the direction of your work?

These two exhibitions, although different in their approach, share the same essence of poetry, sincerity, and reflection. They act as vibrant bridges, reflecting the unity, diversity, and beauty of a world where everything is interconnected.

With Fragments of Harmony, I sought to highlight the importance of a peaceful bond between humanity, nature, and the present moment. Collage becomes a metaphor for this delicate connection, where each cut and each layer testify to a fragile balance, and paper becomes the medium of a subtle yet essential reflection.

In Where Paper Blossoms, I deepened this exploration by treating paper as a living memory. Here, the cut-paper collages become a silent act of ecological and emotional resistance, opening a dialogue on peaceful coexistence, empathy, and renewal.

These two chapters marked an important stage in my artistic journey. They strengthened my desire to create spaces that bear witness to a harmonious and sustainable relationship between human beings and nature, while inviting us to envision a responsible future.

In this spirit, I reimagined two series that extend this reflection: Horizon, “Opening up to vast and serene spaces,” and Présence au Monde, “An invitation to slow down, awaken, and feel.” Both express my aspiration to offer moments of serenity and poetry, where art becomes a bridge between inner vision and the fragile beauty of the world.

Our November print edition carries the theme “Around the Corner.” What lies around the corner for you at this moment, from the book to new works and projects you are preparing for the autumn and winter?

In painting, several sketches close to my heart are waiting to come to life through my scissors.

In terms of publications, my work will appear in various art books and magazines.

For exhibitions, autumn and winter will be marked by an art fair as well as several shows.

In writing, I am currently working on a poetry collection designed to enter into dialogue with my collages, for I believe poetry and paper share a common language: that of assembly, rhythm, and emotion.

Across all these upcoming projects, my wish remains the same: to weave bridges between art and life, between image and word, inviting each person to contemplate and to dream. I deeply believe that art has the power to bring serenity, wonder, and hope, precious seeds that we can plant together for the future.

In everything she creates, Beatrice shapes a space where art and life flow seamlessly together. Her books, collages, and exhibitions form a universe in which words carry color and images echo the rhythm of poetry. Each work carries a breath of hope and tenderness, inviting moments of reflection and the discovery of beauty in its most delicate forms.

Edgar, the central figure of her new book, stands as a symbol of this creative journey: a heart beating in harmony with nature and a vision that perceives light even where it is least expected. He opens the door to imagination and shows that within it rests the power of transformation and inner freedom.

Through her work, Beatrice reminds us that art can be a place of encounter, a bridge between inner vision and reality, a gift that enriches everyone who approaches it. Her universe radiates connection, harmony, and trust in the future. This is the message that endures, art as a source of hope, a seed that grows into serenity, inspiration, and the quiet wealth of life.
